The Whale Project is a year long installation of 12 life size whale sculptures installed at temporary locations throughout locations around Monterey Bay.
Example locations throughout Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties
Each year more than 20,000 gray whales pass through Monterey Bay waters during their annual migration between Alaska and Baja, Mexico. This winter we have a small population of humpback whales who are either staying late or arriving early.
The Monterey Bay boasts whale watching year-round, but right now is a cetacean celebration as many species have returned north. While the gray whales are starting to leave for Alaska, pods of humpback, killer, blue and rare fin whales are breaching the bay’s waters and splashing on the surface.
