Working on the Wall Street Poster – 1997 in my studio in San Francisco
In 1997 I was commissioned to illustrate a poster of Wall Street by a San Francisco based company. After having illustrated 50 posters, the Wall Street Poster was the most challenging. Much like my illustrations of Boston and the current Poster I am illustrating of Santa Cruz “The Cruz”, the streets have no logical pattern and from the air it is difficult to link known reference points. After 2 months I completed the illustration and to date remains one of my favorite commercial projects, probably because it was an enormous tribute to my home town. It is also home to the late Saul Steinberg who perfected the 1 point perspective view of the world on his 1977 New Yorker cover.
